June 25 - Thoughts from Brad Peters

June 25 - Thoughts from Brad Peters

Hi Everyone. Here is an update on what Family Promise is doing in the area. I know a lot of you have been wondering how the families are getting along in these strange times.  This just came from the area case manager, Christen,

Hello Coordinators!  I am pleased to say that we placed the most precious family in our program today.  Grandma is Kimberly, with custody of grandsons Malcom (5) and Markale (14).  They will be staying in our trailer for now.  Please pray for this family, as these kids have been through a lot!  Malcom (5) is a charmer and was so excited to see the house and his room.  He was very helpful unpacking all of the linens and supplies!  Grandma loves these boys and has never been in the position to need this kind of help before, but she is trusting that God has a plan.  I have not met Markale yet, but should get to meet him Friday.

We are in the process of interviewing one other family that we could temporarily place in an extended stay hotel, while providing case management and groceries.  Thank you for all of your prayers and support as we continue to serve our community the best we can during these crazy times!

And later - You know that we placed a family in our program last week in the trailer we have in Lucas.  Well after tomorrow we should have another family!  This is a single mom with two kids: a 12-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy. They are staying at a hotel in McKinney right now and have been without a working car, but we are working on getting that resolved.

As you can see, the homeless situation goes on even in a pandemic!   While we skipped our last host week and our next week may or may not happen in mid-August, First Christian Church McKinney is still actively supporting this ministry!  We may not be physically hosting, but our financial help is what is carrying these families with groceries, gas, short term lodging, etc. In the past, you have generously donated gas cards, Walmart gift cards and the like.

Through the Outreach Committee, we will be making a contribution on our church community’s behalf to help this ministry as they "re-invent" the program during this time of no host church stays.  In lieu of any hosting, if you feel called to help, just put a notation on a portion of your giving to FCC earmarked for Family Promise and we will get it to them.

Thanks so much for your support of Family Promise and their wonderful work!
