A Prayer for Graduates
God our Creator,
We come to you with unending gratitude of the joys of celebration and joys of anticipation of those who are graduating and beginning the next chapter of their lives.
Thank you for the season of growth and nurture you have entrusted them to our care. As they venture out into the world grown, we entrust them in your care.
You have created these women and men in your image. We pray for their continued story of love and mission.
We thank you that they found a home here, with us in our community raised by people who loved them and care for them. We pray for their future homes, neighborhoods, and places of work, play, and worship.
We pray that wherever they fly, they will be best of the best. Wherever they go, they will top all the rest.
For when the bang-ups and hang-ups can happen and will happen, they know you are by their side.
For those pursuing higher education, grant them the knowledge that they will need in their chosen fields.
For those going to the workforce, grant a sense of what is right and good and honoring, especially in the complexity.
For those going into military service, may they draw courage and strength from you.
For all the mentors, teachers, church leaders, club sponsors who coached and taught them along their way, we pray for the joy and celebration to continue to be that influence in others lives.
Lastly, we pray for the ones who raised them—parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles too. That the bitter sweetness of their growth demonstrates the power of the Holy Spirit and the image of God’s holy creation. Amen.
