July 8 - Thoughts from Rev. Wright

Thoughts from Pastor Katherine

July 8th

This week we are welcoming Rev. Dr. Andy Mangum to our pulpit this week to join us in worship. Besides from being my pastor, he is the Regional Minister the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the Southwest. He wears an infinite number of hats, caring and serving for congregations in Texas and New Mexico.

The first time I got to know Andy was when he was keynoting for CYF camp where I was counseling at Disciple Oaks Camp in Gonzales, Texas. He spent the week bonding with the youth and adults, teaching and playing. At the end of the week, his last keynote he spent in action by washing the feet of adults and youth that he connected with. I was an extremely proud youth minister as I watched him wash the feet of one of my youth discerning her future vocation.

Last week I told Michele I was probably going to tell that story in my “Thoughts” for Wednesday.  It was up to much of my surprise that today’s schedule reading was Jesus washing the Disciples’ feet. As Jesus tells us that servants are not greater than their master, nor are messengers greater than the one who sent them. We are truly grateful for a regional minister who cares for our congregations in a world that is ever changing and seeking wholeness in a fragmented world.

May we continue to learn from Jesus’ powerful moves serving others around him and loving your neighbor as yourself. May we continue to be the hands and feet of Jesus, sharing in God’s love with our community in its time of need.
