Feb 10th - Thoughts from Peter
One week from today we begin the season of Lent, the journey of preparation for Holy Week. Over the course of several weeks, we will gather around a call to prayer twice a week. These prayers will be available in our Prayer Journal, on Facebook and will be emailed out to the congregation. Sunday prayers are coordinated with our scriptures used in worship. Wednesday prayers will be for veracious elements of our community such as those who are sick or those who teach. Along with these prayer prompts, recorded video prayers from church leaders will be shared on Facebook and through email. Our collective spirit of prayer will guide us through Lent toward Holy Week and the celebration of Easter.
Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent on Wednesday, February 17th. We will observe the imposition of ashes in several ways. From 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. we will have “ashes to go” available at the portico of the Sanctuary. At 6:30 p.m. we will hold worship with in-person, socially distant or online options. Regardless of how you receive your ashes, nobody is going to touch you. This year we will do things a bit differently with the self-imposition of ashes. Each worshipper or drive thru attender will receive their own small container of ashes to use for the sign of the cross on themselves.
I am grateful for our shared experience of this holy season.
Joining you in prayer,
Rev. Peter Mitchell
