August 10 - Thoughts from Rev. Katherine

Thoughts from Pastor Katherine

August 10th

Over the past few months as I have been writing these “Thoughts” I have been quite honest about the ups and downs. I look to scripture this morning, particularly to the Genesis 7 passage from the daily readings. It is a description of a time of crisis.  It’s a crisis that lasts so long it feels like a new normal.

I don’t know, maybe you feel like you’re on a boat as the water is rising. Maybe you’re surrounded by animals, making a lot of sound and fuse, making a lot of messes. Maybe you have forgotten the feeling of dry land. Maybe you are mourning what you’ve lost. Maybe you’ve only seen the same few people for the last 150 days.

At the end of the story, God makes a promise to Noah. This is a promise of hope. I pray for our own hopefulness inspired by the promise of God to Noah. I pray for the beauty after the storm and the unending love and grace for our Creator.

Genesis 8: 22  “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.”
