April 23 - Thoughts from Rev. Katherine

Thoughts from Pastor Katherine

Thursday, April 23, 2020

I am going to get a little honest, here. I hope that’s ok with you.

Today, I am a little beat down by the controversy and disagreements. It is hard to be amongst division that people lose the respect for one another. Today, I am beat down by the constant rescheduling of precious celebrations and events that are dear to the church and its people. It’s hard to be a church or any other organization and really not know what the next few months are going to look like. Today, I am worried for those families and individuals struggling. Today, I am worried for the sick and those caring for them.

It is just one of those days that I guess the Easter hope has slipped my mind. The rainy and cloudy skies keep us from remembering the freshness of spring that graced us already. I do not mean to sound like a Debbie Downer, but I want you to know that if you are like me you are not alone. We a community of believers here to support each other, to celebrate together, and to feel funky together. The church does not expect perfection and is here for you in times of funkiness.

The scripture from Isaiah 25:1-5 speaks of the time restoration that came after the downfall of the enemy city. “Oh Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you, I will praise your name; for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful, and sure…Therefore, strong peoples will glorify you; cities of ruthless nations will fear you.” Together we are stronger and together we believe in restoration.

May we support each other through our ups and downs. May we seek those who need comforted and assured. May we be reminded of the Easter hope of resurrection. May we look forward to the time of restoration. May we praise the name of God for God has done wonderful things of the old, faithful, and sure. Amen.
