April 14 - Thoughts from Rev. Katerine
Thoughts from Pastor Katherine
April 14, 2020
I’m writing to you on my birthday (Monday). Being a spring birthday, my birthday has always fallen around Easter. Sometimes it would fall on Good Friday, as a kid I would love that because I would get the day off school. I was baptized on Palm Sunday which was also my birthday. I was even born the Monday of Holy Week. Sometime soon, my birthday will even be on Easter.
Today I do something different than Pastor Fred and I am going to include my favorite chocolate chip cake recipe. It might be my birthday—but Easter is always the start of something new for everybody. See, when Jesus was resurrected, it wasn’t the return to what once was, it was the beginning of the Living Christ. Nothing still went back to normal, just the new resurrected life began. In the church calendar, Easter goes on for many weeks after this until Pentecost, the birth of the Church. During this time, I invite you to celebrate (with cake, if you like) the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the revolution of love and hope for our world. Celebrate the new eternal life—the new life in the grace of the risen Christ Jesus.
Katherine’s Chocolate Chip Cake
1 box yellow cake mix
1 small box instant vanilla pudding
1 cup oil
1 cup chocolate chips
½ cup mini chocolate chips
½ cup water
½ teaspoon vanilla
Pre-heat oven to 350. Place all ingredients in a mixing bowl. Beat until well blended. Pour into a well-greased 9x12 pan. Bake approximately 40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
May we go to celebrate the Risen Christ, the hope of the new life ahead of us. Redeemed by Christ, Guided by the Holy Spirit. Amen.
